My husband was able to install it relatively easily and I love the convenience of being able to check on the interior of my home with the app. No one should have to buy a product on the promise of future fixes, and theres no excuse for how unready the Home app was for these new cameras because, again, Google had years to prepare.

The settings are messy and hard to sort through, feeds are often slow to load up, clips cant be saved to your account and cant be manually created, and theres just so much more, but the real problem is how long its taken Google to fix these problems.

While I wish Google had adopted the newer night vision technology that enables color picture at night, the IR-based system kept a room well illuminated, and even in black and white, I could make everything out easily. For instance, you cant set a schedule on the new Nest Cam, which makes it almost useless in large portions of my home.

The watch-outs - I've had plenty of issues with the Nest app as I'm a legacy Google Home user and the Nest software has issues for legacy Home users The USB power connection with the lock mechanism from the camera to the power connector requires you tro drill a hole much larger than theoretically needed when installing the wire through walls. Item was received in new condition, and original packaging. There are certainly people the new Nest Cam is for, but its no longer going to be anywhere near the gold standard. Cons: The only con I can think of is that it doesn't have panning capabilities.

This is something Im sure Google can fix in future software updates. You access the Nest Cams settings and video feed via the Google Home mobile app for Android and iOS devices. The camera captures 1080p video at 30fps and uses HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology to deliver enhanced colors and contrast. The More button lets you turn the camera on and off, while the gear button (also in the upper right corner) takes you to a Settings screen where you can enable intelligent notifications; configure what type of events trigger a recording; create activity zones; adjust video quality and night vision settings; and enable or disable audio recording.
At that point, the installation was complete. While Im sure things will be patched up in time, as someone who invests their own money in this ecosystem, it really puts a sour note on that investment to see that Google is so slow to make any real progress.
